One of the unexpected delights being here on Substack has brought me, is inspiration. Specifically, the questions and prompts other writers ask. The inspiration from todays post is credited to Keris Fox for bringing me some lightness and joy, by asking in a prompt what happy memories/experiences money has brought.
I’ve had a tumultuous relationship with money. Our family had money, then my Dad lost it. My Mum was a single parent with three kids, and I knew every month what we could and couldn’t afford. My Dad emotionally blackmailed me with money. I got offered a credit card at 18, with no money education and spent everything I earned till I got into my 30’s. I have yo’yo’d from periods of making a lot of money in my business to periods of making next to nothing. Look, here’s money. Ah, look again, it’s gone.
During my ADHD diagnosis, I learned that money mismanagement is a by-product of the executive function challenges ADHD brains have. I did a chunk of money manifestation work prior to my diagnosis that never worked, long term. And as I’ve highlighted above, money has always been in and out of my life. Lots of not great memories, a brain not wired for money management, no money education at school and some messed up Internet info about manifestation meant I’m skewed towards not feeling great about money.
Writing out the below list of what positives money has brought me, felt light and joyful. It’s interesting that at the time of some of them, I didn’t consider myself wealthy. But there’s a definite abundant vibe that comes from doing this list.
So here is mine. Lots more I’ll remember to add and hopefully lots more to come!

This is wonderful! I'm trying to change my perception of money, so your post came at just the right time. A few things money has brought me are:
1. Super delicious food from the farmers market.
2. Books, books, and more books.
3. Lovely items of clothing that are well-made and meant to last me for decades.
4. A forthcoming trip to Rhode Island.
I love this post and I love your list!
